Staying GREEN while moving!
How to make your move GREENER:
The first thing you should do beforeyou pack for your move is to go through your belongings and decidewhat you plan to take with you. We all seem to have a lot of “stuff”these days and moving is the perfect time to get rid of those thingsyou no longer use. You can reuse a lot of things you don't want bydonating them to charity or having a yard sale. Many times there arepeople who can use the items you don't want to take with you. Whenyou are going through your things, try to recycle as many things asyou can and reduce waste.
Instead of using cardboard boxes topack your belongings, consider purchasing some storage containersinstead. Then once you move, you can continue to use these containersto keep your space organized. If this is not an option for you, consider using used cardboard boxes rather than buying new ones.Check out the grocery store or liquor store – they are always happyto give you their boxes. You can also pack with newspaper insteadof packing peanuts. You can also use old sheet or towels for fragileitems. If you find you need the packing peanuts for some items, tryto locate the ones that are recyclable.
If you file a temporary address changeat the post office instead of a permanent address change, you canavoid all that junk mail that comes to your home. The post officesells permanent address lists to direct marketers (at least in the USso probably in Canada as well).
By taking these few initiatives you can do your part to make your world a little greener!!
